We have recently undertaken infiltration testing for Jackson Civil Engineering and Jaynic as part of the design of stub road drainage at Suffolk Park.
Due to the variation in the Quaternary Geology across the Suffolk Park site, the ideal infiltration medium, the Croxton Sand and Gravel was encountered at depths greater than 4m at this particular location.
To begin with, we tried with the 13 tonne excavator to get through the overlying very stiff clays of the Lowestoft Formation, but to no avail, so over came the 21 tonne machine to show how it should be done!
5m deep test holes – No problem!
The holes were backfilled with gravel and monitoring pipes, with data loggers installed so the subsequent infiltration testing could be undertaken safely at such depths.
Please feel free to contact us should you need infiltration testing as part of your scheme and to find out more about our geotechnical services. By the way, we don’t usually need such a big machine for this work though!
