Bridges & Retaining Walls – Shotley Marina

Client: Shotley Marina

Contractor: Haven Ports, Marine & Construction Management Ltd

Richard Jackson Ltd undertook geotechnical investigations to allow a remedial works design for the river walls at Shotley Marina to be undertaken. The original sea wall was showing visible signs of deterioration and were in a state of general disrepair.

The remedial works design had to incorporate the existing access road to the rear of the wall (private road) and provide appropriate vehicle and pedestrian railings to ensure a safe environment was created. Provision was made in the design to allow for future erosion/dredging at the tow of the wall which was reconstructed using sheet piling.

Both the geotechnical investigation of the construction works for the installation of steel sheet piles required careful planning. The access road behind the river wall needed to remain open at all times as this provided the sole route to the adjacent marina.
