Richard Jackson Ltd were engineers for what has turned out to be a highly successful and high profile public project in Norwich. With its 30m balanced cantilever structure, it has won a string of awards including the Institute of Structural Engineers regional award for Structural Excellence together with similar accolades from the RIBA, RICS, SCALA and the local press.

The administration building and travel centre incorporates a planar three storey high glazed facade providing natural light to an atrium structure. The dramatic aluminium fabric membrane clad canopy is in two parts with slender 30m long balanced cantilever trusses.

The profile is designed to encourage thermal updrafts to vent exhaust fumes through a central hexagonal orifice defined by a ring beam in which the inner ends of the main cantilevers react. A major part of Richard Jackson Ltd’s brief was the engineering design of the extensive paving and drainage.
