Richard Jackson Ltd provided engineering services for this 1000 capacity container park. The site occupies two hectares at Felixstowe Dock.
The containers are stacked up to five high. Alternative external paving construction details were investigated, including consideration of the use of ground stabilisation before the final solution was chosen. By using analytical methods we were able to reduce the paving thickness to a minimum on particularly difficult soil conditions, whilst remaining within the strict settlement criteria required by the client.
Ground modelling was undertaken to provide accurate estimates for removal of soil for recycled use as an environmental bund. Other works included the structural design of appropriate office, mess and storage buildings plus the associated surface and foul water drainage for the site. As the surface water was to discharge into an adjacent watercourse, extensive attenuation was required, along with the obtaining of the appropriate consents from the Environment Agency.
