Rail – Anglia Stations

Client: Network Rail Anglia Region

Richard Jackson Ltd were commissioned by Racal/Thales Communications to undertake structural surveys of seventy stations in the Anglia Region. The surveys were carried out in order to allow passenger information systems to be installed.

The systems included CCTV monitors and cameras, driver only operator monitors, single and multiple information display screens and passenger ‘help’ points. The proposed locations had to be surveyed to ensure that the station/tunnel structures would not be overstressed by incorporation of the proposed fixing.

Also consideration had to be given to maintaining appropriate headroom as the majority of the equipment was to be installed within public areas. Emergency access and sighting distances also had to be maintained. The structures were strengthened where necessary by the insertion of additional members and the use of various load spreading techniques to accommodate the additional loading imposed.
