This project involved the conversion of the old Crown and Anchor Hotel and neighbouring buildings into a new retail development. The main building was a Grade II listed Victorian structure with a limestone façade. We carried out a structural assessment of the existing buildings.
This included a radar survey of the limestone to check the integrity of the old Victorian fixings. Timber floors were retained and strengthened with steelwork to double the load bearing capacity from hotel bedroom to retail use. The existing basement was filled using the innovative solution of lightweight foam concrete to prevent ground subsidence.
